We all have had those nights when our weather apps tell us the sky is clear, but experience shows that it is really a hot, humid, and hazy soup. In the Washington, DC area, we call those nights "summer." But we persevere and try to collect whatever diffuse photons manage to filter their way through the haze.
This was my experience capturing the Western Veil. I collected just under 9 hours of data across three hazy nights. None of data was ideal; most of it was...adequate. As I have done on other recent projects, I superimposed broadband stars on an otherwise dual-narrowband image. In all, the project was far more successful than last year's attempt, when I used the one acceptable August night to create an image that proved unsuitable for sharing--so you'll have to take my word for it.
